About Me

My main interests surround the development of mathematical knowledge and skills. Together with my colleagues, we are examining how individual differences in spontaneous quantitative focusing tendencies influence mathematical development. In general, we attempt to blend cognitive psychological approaches with educational research to both better understand mathematical cognition and create supportive instruction for promoting this understanding.

As well, I am interested in adaptive expertise, conceptual change with the number concept, the development of quantitative reasoning in young children, and new approaches to statistical analysis.

In my spare time I am an active drummer, having been playing in bands for over half my life (Maxwell Edison, Morningbell, Agent Kooper to name a few) and have recently discovered the joys of running. I live in Espoo with my wife and three children.
